The Reflective Therapist: Working with Uncertainty

DEEPENING TOLERENCE OF UNCERTAINTY IN THERAPEUTIC PRACTICE

This workshop helps therapists move from urgency to resolve toward the capacity to stay with complexity and ambiguity, allowing clarity to emerge rather than be prematurely defined.

Uncertainty is inherent to therapeutic work. Clients bring complexity, ambivalence and material that does not resolve quickly. At the same time, professional training often emphasises formulation, intervention and clarity. While structure is essential, the pressure to resolve uncertainty too quickly can narrow what is possible.

Uncertainty in therapy is not a problem to eliminate but a space in which meaning can unfold. This experiential CPD day supports therapists in strengthening that internal capacity.

Who is it For

This workshop is suitable for psychotherapists, counsellors, counselling psychologists and other helping professionals.

It is for practitioners who:

  • Are interested in deepening their clinical presence

  • Notice pressure to interpret or intervene too quickly

  • Want to feel more steady when clients are ambivalent or unclear

  • Value reflective development beyond learning new techniques

Different from Supervision

Supervision focuses on client work and ethical oversight. This workshop focuses on developing your internal stance as a therapist.

Rather than discussing cases, we explore how you relate to uncertainty itself, by strengthening the steadiness and discernment from which your clinical decisions arise.

The Approach

This is a structured, experiential CPD day rather than a lecture, using guided mandala painting as a reflective tool — not as art therapy. No artistic skill is required.

Through visual reflection and facilitated dialogue, you will explore how you respond internally when meaning is not yet clear, strengthening your capacity to remain present with complexity and ambiguity in clinical practice.

The workshop is informed by Jungian psychology and Eastern philosophy, translated into a grounded and practical reflective process relevant to therapeutic work.

Professional Impact

By developing a more spacious relationship to uncertainty, therapists often experience:

Greater confidence when clarity is not immediate

Less urgency to intervene prematurely

Greater steadiness when holding client ambivalence

Conditions that allow deeper insight and breakthrough

This work does not replace clinical training or supervision. It strengthens the internal stance from which they are practised.

TESTIMONIAL

“Marie is an excellent facilitator. She delivers with clarity and warmth while allowing space for deep reflection. The day helped me recognise how I respond internally when meaning is not yet clear, and how that shapes my clinical work."

- Gemma, Head of Counselling, Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor

Hello, I'm Marie!

The work I do is shaped by having spent time in worlds that rarely speak to each other.

My background spans finance and business, from PwC to founding, scaling and selling a creative company, alongside qualifications in coaching and counselling and many years facilitating reflective and experiential development work.

Working across these domains has taught me that clarity does not arise from structure alone, nor from insight alone. It emerges through the integration of analytic thinking with imagination, reflection with action.

This integrative perspective informs how I facilitate, supporting professionals to engage complexity with steadiness, discernment and depth.
